California Academy of Sciences

BioGraphic is an interactive digital magazine created for the California Academy of Sciences in 2015—a visual and editorial journey through the world’s most extraordinary ecosystems. From deep oceans to dense rainforests, the experience invites users to explore flora, fauna, and the forces that shape our planet.

To reflect the Academy’s scientific depth and aesthetic beauty, I used high-resolution illustrations and anatomical visuals—skeletons, textures, and fine details of animals and plants—as bold hero elements. These visuals evoke both curiosity and reverence for nature’s complexity.

The user experience is designed around intuitive exploration. Articles are grouped into broad thematic categories, allowing users to “choose their own adventure” and navigate the content in a non-linear, self-directed way. The interface supports deep engagement while remaining easy to browse—balancing storytelling, structure, and visual drama.
